Show Notes

Teshalonika Krisanti is an educator, artist, singer and sustainability advocate.

Before she even graduated from High School, Tesha harnessed her passion for the arts, singing and education and founded the nonprofit school Kampoeng English in 2016. Kampoeng English empowers local children to be confident learners who follow their dreams, ignite their potential, all with a focus on sustainable education and hands-on learning.

Teshalonika moved from Jakarta to Bali with her family after her father was appointed as the resident artist at the internationally recognised Green school, Bali. Mind you, his application was promoted by Tesha, who dreamed of moving to Bali and  attending the school in order to nurture her creativity and passion for progressive learning approaches. Shortly after his appointment, Tesha gained a full-time scholarship at the school in 2015.

Her sincere gratitude for the opportunity she was given combined with her immediate connection to the Balinese people, Tesha’s desire to “give-back” was immediately born. And, so she did.

Through local community collaboration, shear determination and lots of hard work, Kampoeng English school opened in 2016 with 10-15 students. Now, the school regularly holds classes for around 105 students (sometimes more). The School has become a pillar of strength, inspiration and stability for local children near Tesha’s home in Ubud.

In this week's episode, Tesha is with me to share her journey, experiences, challenges and hopes for the future.
